It’s Time To Get Desperate!
Mar 21, 2022Desperation breeds determination.
READ 1 SAM. 1:1-20
Here you will find how one of the greatest prophets in history came to be. A man named Samuel. Samuel would be the last official judge of Israel and the man who would anoint the great King David, the earthly ancestor of The Lord Jesus.
This article aims to help us see that Samuel could never have been without Hannah, his mother. Hannah had to get desperate. She deeply desired a child - a son. But the more remarkable story is that God wanted a prophet.
MIRACLES HAPPEN WHEN OUR PRAYERS COME IN CONTACT WITH GOD'S PLAN AND PURPOSE
It's easy to become discouraged when our prayers seem to fall flat with no immediate results. The answer begins to unfold when we align with God's mind about the matter.
PRAYER DOESN'T NECESSARILY MOVE GOD - IT MOVES US IN ALIGNMENT WITH GOD'S MIND
You've heard, "Desperate times call for desperate measures." The Lord will seem inactive even though He's positioning us with the end He has in mind. We find ourselves asking God why things had to get to this point. But we do not seek him intensely until current conditions deteriorate beyond anyone's help but God.
Let us consider three elements or lessons in this story of Hannah.
#1 DESPERATION
- When we are up against a wall, we get desperate.
- Desperation can be a great fuel for survival.
- If your going to beat defeat, you've got to get desperate.
- Hannah was ridiculed for being barren.
- She was desperate for a son.
#2 DETERMINATION
- Determination means making a decision or settling on a purpose.
- Desperation breeds determination.
- Once we get desperate enough, we become determined to get through this.
Luke 22:44
"44 And being in an agony he prayed more earnestly: and his sweat was as it were great drops of blood falling down to the ground."
- Agony means a struggle or anguish.
- It comes from the root word meaning:
- A place led to, a fight, contest, or race.
PRAYER ISN'T MEASURED BY TIME - BUT BY INTENSITY!
Philippians 4:5-6
"5 Let your moderation be known unto all men. The Lord is at hand. 6 Be careful for nothing; but in every thing by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known unto God."
#3 DESIRE OF GOD
- There were multiple results from Hannah's desperate prayer.
- Hannah received a son.
- God produced a prophet - Samuel.
- Samuel was God's answer to the wickedness currently happening within the priesthood of Eli.
- Samuel would be the vehicle of appointment for King David.
Have you become desperate enough to pray with intensity? Are you ready to surrender your desires to the purpose of God? Look around you. The world as a whole is in desperation. It's time for God's people to respond to this desperation with intense determination so the desire of God can be realized.
