Bloody & Bruised
Nov 02, 2022"...and I will put enmity between thee and the woman, and between thy seed and her seed; it shall bruise thy head, and thou shalt bruise his heel." - Gen. 3:15, KJV
A Few Thinking Points
- Here we see the first prophecy given in scripture.
- Our first impression of this verse is typically that this is the curse.
- This is God's first provision - mercy!
- God's mercy comes before judgement.
- After this verse, Adam and Eve are banished from the garden but not before the Deliverer is promised.
- 2 key elements from this verse in today's message:
- 1) Blood (seed)
- 2) Bruising
- God has always been the one who has sought after us.
BLOOD
- Enmity is the first consequence we read in this verse.
- Enmity - "deep rooted hatred"
- Things at enmity with God:
- Seed of Satan
- Friendship with the world
- James 4:4
- 1 John. 2:15-17
- Carnal mind
- Romans 8:6-8
- HOWEVER, enmity is abolished in Christ!
- Ephesians 2:15-16
- From her seed comes the promised deliverer!
- Galatians 4:4
- Revelation 12:1-6
- But man can't take credit for the coming of the deliverer as the seed of woman.
- Luke 1:34-37
- Blood is God-ward first!
- Exodus 12:13
- The blood is on the outside on the doorframe for God to see.
- The people are on in the inside.
- On the day of atonement, the high priest was allowed to enter the Holy of Holies and sprinkle the blood of their sacrifice on the ark of the covenant.
- Exodus 12:13
- Blood man-ward facing is our salvation.
- It has purchasing power.
- 1 Peter 1:18-23
- The blood of Christ is abundantly more valuable than that of silver and gold and does not perish as they do.
- His blood is our passage to God
- Ephesians 2:13
- Hebrews 10:19-22a
- It has purchasing power.
BRUISING
- Christ was tortured and suffered a terrible death.
- Mark 15:17, 24-25
- Woman's pain in childbirth was greatly increased.
- Gen. 3:16
- Man must tirelessly work the earth with little gain compared to what it could have been.
- Gen. 3:17
- Israel repeatedly sinned against God reaped the consequences.
- Oppression
- Jdgs. 4:1-3
- Wandering in the desert for 40 years
- Josh. 5:6
- Oppression
- Christians were and are still being beheaded today.
- Herod beheaded James
- Herodias wanted John's head
- Present-day beheadings in the middle east
But, Jesus is the HEAD of the Church which is the governmental seat and authority, so we have HOPE!
Romans 16, verse 20, "And the God of peace shall bruise Satan under your feet shortly. The grace of our Lord Jesus Christ be with you. Amen."
